In order to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley and other forms of public oversight, flex plan sponsors are beginning to ask, "Has my flex plan service provider received an SAS 70 certification of its internal controls?"
With the increased scrutiny on financial statements of public companies, regulations have been created to hold management to a higher level of accountability for the effectiveness of their internal controls. Frequent requests for SAS 70 reports are starting to impact flex plan service providers like you. That's because plan sponsors are very interested in obtaining independent verification about the operating effectiveness and reliability of your internal controls.
Most service organizations will need a Type II report, meaning there is a greater amount of testing to be done. These reports usually require a minimum six-month period of reporting to be of benefit to your clients' auditors. However, your controls need to be finalized prior to that in order for testing to begin and be completed on time.
MHM has been working with flex plan service providers like you for over 20 years, so we understand your business and your needs. SAS 70 services are available through our close association with Mayer Hoffman McCann P.C., an independent CPA firm.
